    Tweet was a quiet little bird. All day long, he sat alone in his tree. He 1 sang. He just watched the world around him. Tweet watched frogs and 2 swimming in the pool. He watched rabbits and mice playing in the woods. Day after day, he sat in the same tree and watched the same things.

    Basketball is popular around the world. Kids in almost every country play basketball. And a lot of kids dream about playing in the NBA.

    People first played basketball at a school in the USA. Dr. James Naismith wanted his students to play a sport that was not so dangerous. His game had  thirteen rules（规则）and nine players on each team. Now, there are five players on a team.

    Basketball became popular all around the world quickly. FIBA（国际篮球联合会）was started in 1932. The YMCA（基督教青年会）has sports and activity centres all over the world. It taught its members how to play basketball. Today, the best players in the world are very famous. Whey often help to sell things like shoes and sports clothes. Players like Kobe Bryant, Yao Ming, are famous everywhere they go. In -the 2018 International Men's Basketball Ranking（排名）, China is No. 29.     Poor little Tom walks to the gates. He looks into the palace garden and watches the laughing prince(王子). The prince looks like Tom. Suddenly, the soldier(士兵) puts Tom onto the ground.

    The young prince turns around and sees Tom on the ground. He shouts:

"Stop. Open the gates. The boy can come in."

    Then the prince takes Tom into the palace and asks his servant (仆人) to bring Tom some food. As Tom eats, the prince asks him questions.

    "What is your name, boy?"

    "Tom Canty, sir."

    "Where do you live?"

    "In the city, sir."

    And Tom tells the prince everything. The prince listens in surprise to his story. Then the prince tells Tom about his life. Tom also listens in surprise to the prince's story.

    The boys then decide to exchange clothes. The prince wears Tom's clothes and Tom wears the prince's clothes.

    "Now I am the prince and you are a pauper," says Tom to the prince.

    Then Edward sees a cut on Tom's hand.

    "The soldier hurt you." cries Edward. "Wait here! I will punish（惩罚）him."

    Edward runs out of the palace. He forgets about his clothes.  He is wearing Tom's dirty old clothes. He runs to the gates and shouts, "Open the gates!"

    The soldier laughs at Edward. He throws him out of the gates into the road.

    He closes the gates behind Edward.

    "I am Edward, the Prince and I ask you to open the gates for me!" Edward shouts. But the soldier laughs. More and more people are laughing at the boy.

    Prince Edward shouts and shouts, "I am the Prince!" But nobody listens to him.

Sugar cane

    Do you love sweet food, like cakes and candy? I'm sure you do! What makes this food sweet? Sugar, of course! Do you know any facts about sugar?

    Most sugar comes from sugar cane. This plant is very tall!

    How do we make sugar from sugar cane?

    Farmers cut off the top of the plant. They leave some of the plant in the earth. This will grow into more sugar cane.

    Workers put the sugar cane into big machines. One machine washes the cane. Another machine cuts and turns the cane over and over. Another machine gets the juice from the cane.

    Workers make the juice hot and it becomes thick. The thick juice is called syrup（糖浆）. Workers put a little sugar to the syrup. It turns to crystals（结晶）. A machine dries the crystals. Now we have sugar.

    Sugar can be brown or white. Sugar can be different sizes. Then the sugar can go to the sweet factory. Workers will be happy to use it to make sweets!

    One day, three hungry men walked into a small village（村庄）. Everyone told these travelers that there was no food. Really, the villagers didn't like sharing things with the men.

    "Oh well, there is nothing more delicious than a bowl of stone（石头）soup," one traveler said.

    The villagers thought this was strange, but decided to lend the men a big soup pot. The men made afire, put three stones with some water, and waited.

    A villager looked at the soup and thought, "No soup is good without some carrots." He went home, got some carrots, and put them in the pot.

    Another villager looked at the soup and thought, "The soup really needs potatoes!" so she took a few potatoes and put them into the soup. "
