Something unexpected happened in the summer of my eleventh year. The home I had grown up in burned to the ground in the middle of the night. Thankfully, my mom, dad, grandma, brothers and I escaped along with my dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in. I spent the rest of that night with a friend of my family. I tried unsuccessfully to sleep in the bed in his house. I was too scared.

    The next day my mom brought me a few T-shirts and pairs of jeans that another friend gave to her. One pair of them was too short and the other pair was too long, but I didn't care. At least I had some clothes again. My dad returned to our broken home to see what he could find. The only thing he could save was my mom's rings.

    To spend the summery dad rented us a big house on the same road as our old house had been. As we moved in, our friends and our community continued to donate (捐赠) all they could to help us to get back on our feet. There were more clothes, furniture, food money, and even some books for me to read. Love was around us.

    Looking back now I am thankful for all we went through that summer because it taught me so much about life, love and people. It showed me that when you have nothing left but love, for the first time you see that love is enough.

    Gavin Thomas, an 8-year-old American boy, is an online star in China. Chinese fans know him as "fake(假的) smile boy".

    Gavin first came to people's attention when he was only two years old. His uncle, Nick Mastodon, posted a few shot videos of him on Vine, a popular video-sharing site in the US. In one of the videos, Nick put a gecko(壁虎) on Gavin's head. His nervous yet funny reaction soon won him a lot of fans online.

    Gavin is in primary school right now. "We take a lot of photos. My uncle Nick and I make videos together. My family thinks it is really cool for me to have many fans online and my friends in class know that I make videos and take photos," Gavin said.

    On July 12, 2018, Gavin opened an account (账户) on Sina Weibo. In less than four hours, he got more than 400 thousand followers. One day later, it reached 1 million. 4 months later, the number doubled again.

    "I saw Gavin's smiling photo about one year ago when one of my friends sent it to me. My friend was working on the weekends and used the photo to complain about his boss," said Tian Qian, a primary school teacher in Beijing. Gavin's smile expressed her friend's feeling at that moment.

    "We live in a fast-paced (快节奏的) city and are under a lot of pressure. Gavin's smile makes us feel relaxed," Tian said. I have been following him on Weibo and it's very enjoyable to watch his videos. We are happy that he is bringing joy to our lives."

    There are some skills for students to listen to the teachers in class, which means you're going to have to practice them. Just as you would have to practice basketball to be a better player, you also have to practice listening. How to listen in school?       

    One of the things you'll need to do is to make sure that your mind doesn't wander(漫游). It's easy to start thinking about other things, especially when you are not interested in the subject.       

   Next, listen for the main ideas. If you want to catch every little piece of information, you'll feel tired and bored.        Not only does this show respect to the teacher, it also helps prevent your mind from wandering.       Or it could just be someone talking to their neighbors who shouldn't be, it can even be some birds outside the classroom window, or a group of kids who are talking loudly as they pass the door to your room.

    Finally, you need to take notes because you will not remember everything the teacher said. You'll have to take down the notes so that you can study it after class.       

    Listening isn't always easy, but if you follow these simple steps, you'll be much more successful in your classes.

I am a book lover. So my house is forever full of 1. I have new ones, old ones, hard covers, paperbacks, 2and non-stories. I have three boxes of books in my closet, two boxes of books on the floor of my bedroom, and a box of children's books 3 for my future grandchildren. I have even more books 4the two I wrote on my desk. I try to keep the books 5 building up by donating as many as I can to the local 6, but as soon as I donate a few, I find myself buying a few more.

    Books I read keep my mind young, and my heart 7, and soul bright. They bring me knowledge, laughter, and joy. They connect me with the wisdom of the past and the new ideas of the 8. They keep me moving on the right path as a journey through life.

    I have learned that people are a lot like books as well. Some have bright and shiny covers 9  don't have very much to say inside of them. Others look old and plain but so full of 10and light that reading them can 11your whole life. One difference between books and people, though, is that while a book has an ending, the writing inside of us 12forever.

Take care when writing the book of your own life. Fill it with love for yourself, others and this world. Fill it with all the wisdom you have learned, goodness you have done, 13you have shared, and joy you have 14. Keep writing it every day, too. Make it everything you are and everything you want to be, and then15it to everyone. I know it will be a wonderful and fantastic book.
