Nowdays teeth are important in many ways. I think our teeth need care. If you take care of them, they'll help take care of you. Strong, healthy teeth help you chew the right foods that help you grow. They help you speak clearly. And yes, they help you look your best.
How do we keep our teeth healthy? Here are some tips:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day-after breakfast and before bedtime. If you can, brush after lunch or after sweet snacks, too.
Brush all of your teeth, not just the front ones. Spend time brushing teeth along the sides and back of your mouth.
Take your time while brushing. Spend at least 2 or 3 minutes each time you brush. Play a song you like to help pass the time.
You can also brush your tongue to help keep your breath fresh!
Go to the hospital and visit the dentist twice a year. The dentist will help keep your teeth extra clean and can help you learn the best way to brush.
Mrs. Smith's dog was hungry, but there was not any meat in the house.
Considering that there was no better way, Mrs. Smith took a piece of paper, and wrote the following words on it, "Give my dog half a pound of meat. "Then she gave the paper to her dog and said gently, "Take this to the butcher's shop, and he's going to give you your lunch today."
Holding the piece of paper in its mouth, the dog ran to the butcher's shop. It gave the paper to the butcher. The butcher read it carefully, recognized that it was realiy, the lady's handwriting and soon did it as he was asked to. The dog was very happy, and ate the meat up immediately.
At midday, the dog came to the shop again. It gave the butcher a piece of paper again. After reading it, he gave it half a pound of meat once more.
The next day, the dog came again exactly at midday. And as usual, it brought a piece of paper in the mouth. This time, the butcher did not take a look at the paper, and gave the dog its meat, for he had regarded the dog as one of his customers.
But, the dog came again at four o'clock. And the same thing happened once again. To the butcher's more surprise, it came for the third time at six o'clock, and brought with it a third piece of paper The butcher felt a bit puzzled. He said to himself, "This is a small dog. Why does I Mrs. Smith give it so much meat to eat today?"
Looking at the piece of paper, he found that there were not any words on it!
Every family has lots of chores. Every children didn't like to do chores. So do my family. My family always saw me do chores, but they hardly ever helped me do them,
A year ago, I made a game called "The Endless Chore Game". It's really great. Here's how the game works.
I make a card with forty squares (方框), and I write a different chore on each square. These chores can be easy and interesting like making dessert. Then my family roll the dice (骰子) to decide what chores we have to do. The card also has a few squares with fun things, like watching TV and singing. If you're lucky, you can watch TV when the others are doing the chores.
My son likes the game very much. He goes to the kitchen happily every morning to do the game. It's really a good way to make my children do chores. You can have a try if you have the same problem as me.
This is an E-mail from Anna to Lucy.
My name is Anna. I've been looking forward to having a pen friend for a long time. I hope we can become good friends.
I got your name and e-mail from my English teacher, Ms. Sands. These days I'm thinking about what to write. At first, I wanted to tell you what it's like to go to school here in Anhui, but later I thought you could look up Anhui on the Internet and read about if yourself. Then I had the idea to tell you about my family, but I realized (意识到) that the story of my little brother losing a tooth or the time we got a new cat might be kind of boring. After that, I thought about asking you questions about what it's like to live in USA, but I'm afraid you might think my questions are silly.
I think I can tell you a little about myself. In fact, you probably already learned one thing about me. I sometimes have a hard time making up my mind! I hope you can write me back anyway.
Everyone worries. But how do you deal with your worries? Whether your worries are big or small, you can take these three steps to deal with your worries:
Try to find out what you're worried about
Sometimes, you will know what you're worried about. Other times, you might not. Try to find it out first if you can't ask for help.
Think of ways to make it better
There is always something you can do to help yourself feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won't solve your problem.
Grades at school are often a top worry for kids. If you're worried about grades, ask yourself these questions;
Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?
How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn't a test?
Do I have a good place to do my homework in?
Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her, etc. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose the one that gets your friend back.
Ask for help
When you're worried, it can help to find someone to talk to. You can ask your parents, friends, or teachers for help.
It was raining heavily as I was walking up the hill towards the station at six o'clock on
Saturday morning. In this early morning there wasn't much traffic and there weren't many people. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill, a car came around the corner. It was traveling very fast. Suddenly it hit a lamp post (路灯柱) and turned over.
I ran to the car to help the driver at once. He was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood on his face. A young woman hurried into the station and phoned for an ambulance (救护车) while I was taking care of the driver. Many people came to see what happened. A policeman arrived a few minutes later and asked me a lot of questions about the accident. After a while, the ambulance arrived and the driver was sent to the hospital.
On. Monday morning I went to the hospital to see the man. The doctor told me that he was much better, and he would leave the hospital after a few days' rest.
