    Picasso, the great Spanish painter, was born in 1881 and died in 1973. Before he passed away, he still took up his brushes to start a new picture. He was still looking for new ideas and new ways to paint pictures like a young man. That's why we have       him the "youngest" painter. Young people welcome      ideas. They are always trying new things and new ways of doing things.

    Most painters discover a style of their own and stick to that, especially      people like their pictures. As the artist grows older his pictures may change, but not very much. But Picasso was like a man who had not      found his own style of painting. He was still trying to find the perfect expression for his own idea.

    Picasso painted what he saw with his mind as well as with his eyes. Gertrude Stein, a famous American writer who knew him said that he painted from memory, not as he saw it      his eyes. Picasso painted a picture of her in 1906. People complained that the painting of Miss Stein didn't look like her. But thirty years later Gertrude Stein said that Picasso's painting of her was the only picture she knew that showed her as she really was.

They will think their children work very3. But not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every4her 10-year-old boy put up one finger with his5still closed, begging(恳求）for one more minute to sleep. Like thousands of students "Early Birds" in China, he has to get up around six every morning.

    A report shows that without a good night's sleep, students will be weaker(虚弱的）than they should be. Too much6is not the only reason why students stay up(熬夜）late. Some students always watch TV or play computer games late into the night.

But people began to pollute the earth after he first made a fire, washed his c      in the river and threw dirty things on the ground. Many years ago, pollution was not so serious(严重的)b      there were not so many people.

    There was enough clean water and land. When the land or the river was d      in one place, man moved to another place. But now man is slowly polluting the whole world and there is not enough clean land or water. More people, more pollution.

    How shall we end all this？Is it p      to get rid of (摆脱)pollution？We are glad to say that people have come to know the d        of pollution and a lot of people are working hard to get rid of it.

    Just like the meaning of statue(雕像), living statues are people who stand on the streets without moving just like statues. Maybe it is hard to believe. But when you come to Barcelona, Spain, you will believe it. Las Ramblas is the most famous street in Barcelona. Especially in the summer, thousands of tourists go to the sea by walking down this street. It is a centre of shops and markets. You can not only find tourists there, but also thieves, police, and so on. Among them, the living statues are the most special.

    They are covered with different colours of paint, wearing clothes for different seasons, and standing on the street for several hours without moving. When the visitors guess whether they are real or fake(假的), the statues come to life and move for a few seconds. The movement of the statues seems that someone gave them new lives. They really look like statues, and that's how they got their name.

    Usually there is a jar(罐子)or a hat in front of them. They change to another pose(姿势)when a tourist puts a coin in the hat. Tourists may take photos after giving them some money. But be careful not to touch them unless you want to be covered with paint. It's a really special experience. Don't you think so？
