When I was in high school, my grandfather passed away from a heart attack. Time went back to 2002. and I was a high school student. One day, my family received a call that my grandfather had a heart attack and was being rushed to the hospital. We packed our clothes and traveled for eight hours to get to the hospital.
When we arrived, we headed straight to the hospital to visit him. I remember walking down the hallway leading to the room, and the door was closed. I remember being too afraid to walk into the room to see my grandfather. And then someone came to me and walked with me step by step into the room to see him. She told me about the heart shaped pillow that would reduce his pain if he had a cough and explained the wires and tubes that were coming out of his body. She gave me the strength to see him.
I don't remember what she looked like. However, I remember she cared about a teenage girl who was a little afraid to see her grandfather in the hospital. And I will never forget her kindness. It's been seventeen years, but her simple act made a lasting impression on me. I will never forget her as long as my memory exists.
Research has shown that when we help others, we actually end up benefiting too. Our happiness grows. We feel more satisfied with life. We even have more energy and creativity. Basically, it is more blessed to give than to receive.
I've noticed that some of my friends who get into the habit of gossiping about others. They always complain about their bosses or colleagues. It seems as if they get caught in this situation of complaining, and their frustration distracts them in other parts of their life. When this happens, they become uninterested in new events and get angry with their colleagues or things that happen around them more easily.
At the same time, I've also seen other friends help someone on their team or help out others on a project that has very little, or even nothing to do with their main work. Although it seems like they won't receive anything in return, my friends benefit from cooperation. They've told me that when you help other people get what they want, they will be more willing to help you. Not only that, but they also have said their boss recognized them for their work. And sometimes, they were told in advance about coming projects.
When we begin to help someone, we often turn out to be helping ourselves as well.
Loneliness is an unpleasant feeling. It doesn't have anything to do with the number of friends you have or your relationship with others. Everyone experiences loneliness sometimes. But it is never pleasant. Being lonely can have a huge influence on your health.
Get a pet. Animals provide social support and company, especially dogs. Nothing is better than the love a dog gives It's meaningful to win the trust and love of them. They love you no matter who you are.
It's good to talk to friends and family about your problems, but sometimes you need an expert to provide you with some professional advice. If you don't like your social life, getting advice from a counselor can help you find out what exactly you want.
Reach out to a friend or a family member and talk with that person about how you feel. As you tell someone about your feelings, you can also ask if they have the same feelings, too. This process will help you to see that you are not alone.
Try something new. It's important to have new experiences, such as learning new things, joining a sports club, taking a class, or volunteering in your community. It doesn't matter what you try.
