The sun, the moon and the stars are all in the sky. We see the moon and the stars at night. The sun is a ball. It's much bigger than the moon. It gives us heat (热量). The sun has a family. It's the biggest member of the family. The moon is a ball, too, like the sun and the earth. Sometimes it looks as round as a plate (盘子). Sometimes it looks half a plate. It looks bigger because it's much nearer to the earth. It's much smaller than the sun. It's smaller than the stars. The light (光) on the moon comes from the sun. It has no light of its own.
The stars look smaller than the sun. They look small because they are very far away from us. All day the stars are in the sky. But the light from the sun is too bright. We can't see the stars in the day.

Welcome to Student Success. The radio programme can help students study. This morning we will talk with Jenny, John and Anna, the three top students in English from No. 1 High School, about how they study.
Jenny: I study by reading the textbook every night. I make lists of words I don't know. Then I make flashcards (抽示卡) from the lists and go over them. I like to study by myself at home. It's quiet there.
John: I study best with my friends. We get together in the park after school. Sometimes we use flashcards. At other times, we practise talking in English. It helps me a lot.
Anna: I ask my teacher for help. She always gives me tapes to listen to. Sometimes I read aloud to help practise pronunciation. And I listen to radio programmes like this one too! You can say that I learn by listening.
So they have three different ways to study and they all work. Our next programme is about language learning.

In the Charles E. Johnson Elementary School in New York, there is a special radio. It gives people warnings (警报) about bad weather.
One day, there came a sound from the radio. This sound brought the piece of news: a heavy storm was coming. William Tomic, principal (校长) of the school, he asked teachers to bring children indoors and put them in a safe place at once.
Minutes later, the storm came. However, because of the warning of the radio and the quick work of the principal, no one was hurt. “The radio really did work very well. 我们对它的工作感到很高兴,” William Tomic said. “The parents were as well.” The US government hopes there will be more such success stories. It plans to give this kind of radios to all 97, 000 public schools in the country.
Every year, more than 10,000 big thunderstorms, 2,500 floods, 1,000 tomatoes (龙卷风) and some hurricanes (飓风) take place in the US, so the warning radios are very useful.
They not only give people warnings about bad weather, but also give warnings about other dangerous things.
What does the special radio give people?
Why was no one hurt in the school in the storm?
