    Known as “wolf (狼) girl” at her school, Alyssa Grayson has spent much of her young life teaching others to protect animals.     It happens every night — bedtime. But what if you're not sleepy? Should you still go to bed if you are just going to lie there with your eyes wide open?

    There are many reasons why you are not able to fall asleep. You might be excited by something you did that day. You might be excited about what you're going to do next day. Maybe you can't fall asleep because you don't like sleeping all alone in your room. All of these reasons are normal. However, there are some steps you can take to help you fall asleep.

    One thing that can help is talking to a parent or another trusted adult about what you're thinking about at bedtime. For example, if you're nervous about taking a test, or upset about being teased (取笑) at school, it can really help to tell somebody. Knowing that somebody has heard you can help ease (宽慰) your mind so that you can rest.

    It also helps to sleep in a comfortable bed in a quiet and cool room. If there's anything in your room that makes you feel afraid at night, like a picture that looks strange in the dark, be sure to ask one of your parents if it can be moved.

    If you are usually sleepless around bedtime, doing certain things to relax beforehand (预先) may help you fall asleep when you go to bed. For example, take a warm bath, or listen to a story at least 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep. It also helps to go to sleep at the same time every night. As a result, your body will get the message that it's almost time to sleep.

    One of the hottest places on the earth is Death Valley. It's a desert valley in North America. The animals in Death Valley don't use technology to keep cool. They have special abilities that help them live there.

    The kangaroo rat is one animal that lives in Death Valley. During the day in Death Valley, it gets hotter than 100°F. The kangaroo rat rests all day in a hole in the ground. It covers the hole with grass to keep out the heat. The kangaroo rat comes out at night when it is cooler. This little rat is also very good at conserving (节约) water. It gets all the water it needs from the food it eats. Some kangaroo rats never take a drink of water in their whole lives!

    The sun makes the desert sand very hot. Animals, like snakes, get too hot if they lie on the hot sand too long. One snake, called the sidewinder, can solve this problem. When it travels, the sidewinder bends (使弯曲) its body into a“W”shape. Then it uses the bottom (底部的) parts of the“W”like legs and walks sideways (向一侧). That way it touches only a little of the sand at a time, so the hot sand doesn't burn the snake. This strange way of moving is how the sidewinder got its name.

    A lot of water in the desert is too salty for most animals to drink. All water has some salt in it. As the desert heat dries up pools of water, the salt is left behind. The remaining water in these pools can be much saltier than the ocean. One kind of fish, the desert pupfish, can live in these salty pools because it can drink the salt water.

Research shows that if you have a strong connection to a team, you might make strong connections with people. Many fans feel a sense of belonging to a group. They are less        and have more enjoyable social lives.

           your favorite teams make you a bit crazy sometimes, it's only because you love them. And that's good — if you can remember that it's only a game.

Try to help your dog relax

    It's a Saturday morning. You rush through breakfast, walk the dog, and then get to soccer practice on time. A few hours later, you return home, only to find that the dog has made your bedroom untidy.        Your favorite sports shoes are in poor condition.

    Before you get angry, stop and think. Your dog wasn't misbehaving (行为不端) just for the fun of it.        Some dogs just feel nervous when left alone. It's called separation anxiety (分离焦虑).

    Think of it this way: Dogs can't ask where you're going or when you'll be back. They can't call you on the phone.        Since you're not there, they need to find you. Dogs may suddenly develop separation anxiety. But with practice and patience (耐心), you can teach your dog to be comfortable being left alone.

    Put on your jacket, and then sit back down. Open and close the door, and then sit down. After a while, walk out the door for 10 seconds, then 20, then a minute and so on.       

    Besides, you can also try the following ways:

    ● Teach your dog a word or action that you use every time you leave, which tells your dog you'll be back.

    ● Help comfort (安慰) your dog by leaving a piece of clothing that smells like you.
