Many people, some even at a very young age, set the goal of graduating from college. One American woman in Texas waited a long time for her chance to reach that goal.

The woman, 85-year-old Janet Fein, received her bachelor's degree (学士学位) from the University of Texas in December, 2018.

Fein has had a full life. She raised five children and then had a career as a secretary (秘书) until she retired at age 77. But even then, she was not ready to take it easy and rest during a well-earned retirement. She decided to major in sociology (社会学).

Fein grew up in the Bronx area of New York City. In high school, she just wanted to finish and get a job. After graduating early, at the age of 16, she went to work as a secretary.

After getting married, she spent 18 years staying home with her children. She held several jobs throughout her life, including being a secretary at a Dallas hospital. That is the job she retired from in 2011. She received an associate degree (专科学位) in 1995. But she also wanted to earn a bachelor's degree. Fein took part in a state program that lets people who are 65 and older take free classes at public universities in Texas.

She kept going to class even as her health condition worsened. During her studies, it became necessary for her to use a walker to get around and she needed oxygen (氧气) too. She also developed knee problems. So, Fein took online classes to finish the last part of her degree requirements.

Renee Brown is one of Fein's care-givers. She says Fein has also inspired her. At 53, she plans to begin nursing school to further her career. Brown says Fein told her, "Renee, you can do it. If I can do it you also can do it, and you will feel so good about it. "

2、阅读理解

It has been two months since I moved to China, but its digital advancement hasn't stopped impressing me ever since. One of the major things that I cannot imagine living without anymore is mobile payment. There are two major mobile payment apps here, Alipay and WeChat Pay. Both have similar payment features, though WeChat is more like a social media. That's why I will focus on this "super app".

So far, I've been overwhelmed by how convenient life can be with WeChat. It is present in every aspect of people's daily life, from paying water and electricity bills, meals, cinema tickets to hailing a taxi, following news, and chatting with friends. Most merchants have adopted it, from tiny local street food stalls to high-end stores. A cashier may be surprised if you do not pay with WeChat or Alipay at the grocers or in restaurants. And it seems like the entire payment industry has encouraged this shift to mobile payment, equipping payment terminals (终端) with QR code scanners to simplify payment. Mobile payment is so common here that I realize that I can perfectly survive if I forget my wallet at home one day because most days I just don't take it out of my bag!

As mentioned earlier, WeChat is also a major social media platform with about one billion daily users, which is more than the entire population of the European Union. So I have to say Chinese technological and digital development is a real miracle.

(1)What does the underlined word "overwhelmed" mean in Paragraph 2? (1)
A . Encouraged. B . Shocked. C . Confused. D . Panicked.
(2)What can we learn from the passage? (2)
A . WeChat is more like a social media than Alipay. B . All merchants have adopted mobile payment. C . A cashier may be surprised if you pay with WeChat or Alipay. D . It causes trouble if you don't take your wallet with you.
(3)The best title of the passage might be       . (3)
A . The Different Opinions About Mobile Payment B . The Development of Mobile Payment C . The Popularity of Chinese Mobile Payment D . Two Major Apps of Mobile Payment
3、阅读理解

Ask any new college graduate about his immediate goals, and it is likely that he will tell you he wants a job. But it turns out that today's students are not going to be satisfied with any job. According to the latest survey, making a difference through their work is essential (必要的) to young people's happiness.

The survey found that 72 percent of graduating college seniors believe being able to have a positive social influence through their work is essential to their happiness. Making a difference is so important to them that 45 percent say they would take a 15-percent pay cut to work at an organization that has a social or environmental influence, and 58 percent say they would take a pay cut to work for an organization whose values are the same as their own.

Besides this, the survey found that female students are far more likely to put social influence in first place than their male classmates, echoing the results of a former study showing that female maths and science majors are more likely to say they go into those fields to make a difference.

One reason for the emphasis (强调) on improving the world probably has to do with the culture of colleges, which encourages students to connect their studies back to real-world problems. Students are used to discussing important social issues (问题) with their friends and professors, and doing something about them in class or through volunteer activities. Once students develop those habits, they don't shut them off when graduation rolls around.

(1)What does the underlined word "echoing" in Paragraph 3 probably mean? (1)
A . Learning. B . Repeating. C . Believing. D . Creating.
(2)What is one of the reasons for the emphasis on students wanting to improve the world? (2)
A . The habits students develop in society. B . The appearance of important social issues. C . The encouragement of the culture of colleges. D . The effect parents' education has on their children.
(3)What can you learn from the passage? (3)
A . Young people will surely gain happiness if they can make a difference in their work. B . Less than half of the college seniors will take a pay cut to work with the same values. C . Most college graduates believe it important to have a positive social influence on work. D . Female graduates are all putting more social influence in first place than male graduates.
(4)Which could be the best title for the passage? (4)
A . Female Students Are Concerned about Society B . Young People's Happiness Doesn't Depend on Money C . Graduates Become More Interested in Challenging Jobs D . Many Graduates Would Take a Pay Cut to Make a Difference
