A children-raising game called " Chinese Parents" has gained popularity among Chinese players recently with its real-life setting and realistic plots. Released on September 29, this online game has received over 13,000 comments on Tencent WeGame and Steam, two popular gaming platforms in China, in less than a month, according to data from the two platforms.
"Why not re-experience the joy of changing your life through the game?" said Sun Shoubin, a 28-year-old in the city of Zibo in east China's Shandong Province. He spent almost all his spare time on the game as soon as he downloaded it.
Players are responsible for cultivating their fictitious children online. During the lifetime of these children, they must make vital choices for them just like Chinese parents do in real life, such as choosing extra-curricular classes, deciding their majors in universities, and even finding marriage partners for them. A" child's" physical condition, IQ level, and imagination can be improved by attending courses arranged by the player" parents" in each round of the game.
"From the game, I also learned that ongoing efforts can bring about great changes to our lives," Sun said." I can understand my parents more, and show my appreciation for the hardships they have overcome for raising and training me."
Chinese parents are more likely to plan almost everything for their children. Social issues about Chinese parents, families, and education of children tend to arouse heated discussions." I integrated these ideas into the game, creating a sense of 'rebirth' for players and driving them to experience a virtual child-rearing life through entertainment," said Yang Geyilang, the game producer.
Some negative comments were also made by the game players." This game is somewhat controversial," a player named Producer Kahn commented, highlighting that although exams are important, we cannot regard the scores as the only standard to judge a child, which has become a routine for many Chinese families.
Ireland is throwing away peat (泥炭) for energy and turning to wind.
Peat has a lot to recommend it. It sends off a pleasant smell when burned. It is a cheap source of energy; at its simplest it needs no more than digging by hand. But peat is also one of the dirtiest fuels available, emitting 23% more carbon dioxide than coal.
Ireland is unusual among developed countries in burning it for energy. Peat has been used on the island for at least 1,000 years. But it may at last be on its way out as Ireland turns to another energy source of which it has unlimited quantities: wind.
Galway Wind Park will be Ireland's largest wind farm when it is completed, producing 169MW of power at peak capacity (容量), or about 3% of Ireland's average needs. It is only the latest development in Irish wind power, which has tripled in the last decade to more than 3GW of capacity. The renewable resource now provides a quarter of the electricity Ireland consumes every year.
Eirgrid, a state-owned company which manages the grid (电网) in both Northern Ireland and the Republic, says much more wind capacity is in the planning stages. Wind is difficult to manage because it is unpredictable, even on the shores with strong winds of western Ireland. Since wind turbines (涡轮机) do not turn consistently, the grid must be carefully tuned to keep it stable.
Eirgrid is planning a set of wires to continental Europe.
A report from SEAI, Ireland's energy authority, suggests that the island could produce enough wind electricity to match domestic demand by 2030, with more left over to export. Bord na Móna, the body responsible for developing Ireland's peatlands, has said it will stop using peat for electricity by the same year.

How to Avoid Leg Pain when running
While Running is fantastic exercise, it's also a relatively high-impact activity. Pounding on the pavement can cause Leg Pain.
Spend longer warming up. If you commonly have leg pain when running, your muscles may not be sufficiently warm. Then include dynamic stretching in your warmup routine after a brief walk. These types of stretching can better loosen your leg muscles and prepare them for a run, which may help you avoid leg pain.
Evaluate your form. Get a coach or experienced runner to observe you running and give you tips on what might be causing your leg pain. For example, if you're leaning too far forward when you run, you can pull too hard on your calves(小腿肚). This can result in the pain of the lower legs.
If you're getting cramps (抽筋) or other leg pain while running, it may be because you need to build up your cardiovascular (心血管) fitness more gradually. Start by walking or jogging at a slower pace, and slowly work up to faster speeds.
Use relaxation techniques while running. Deep breathing and other relaxation techniques give you better mental focus. which can keep you from developing leg pain. You can find recordings online or on your favorite music app. These recordings can help you focus on your breath and reach a more relaxed state as you run.
A. Slow your pace
B. Shorten your step.
C. Here are some skills to avoid leg pain.
D. They also reduce the overall stress in your body.
E. A shorter walk with long steps allows you to avoid leg pain.
F. Take a few more minutes to walk before breaking into a run.
G. If you frequently have leg pain while running, poor running form is to blame.
三、完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分〉(共1小题)
On a warm summer evening in western New York when I was seven, my dad and I were eating watermelon on our patio(露台).
My brother always swallowed the watermelon seeds, but I saved mine 1 a pile on the edge of the plate. "Do you think 2 I plant these in the ground a watermelon will grow?" I asked my dad. "Sure!" he replied.
The next day was Saturday. My dad popped his head through the side door of the garage as I was 3 six small holes in the soil. "Are you going to grow that watermelon?" he asked.
"Sure I'm!" I replied. It was only 8:30am, 4 the watermelon had the entire day to come up.
An hour later, I ran to 5 I planted the seeds to see if the watermelon had grown. Believe it or not, there was not 6 a sprout(幼芽). An hour later I checked again. Still nothing. While I was eating lunch, my dad was 7 outside the house and called to me, "Mary! Come here!" I ran outside very fast.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I just wanted to let you know that the watermelon hasn't grown 8." He did this over and over, 9 I finally started to ignore him when he called me.
After a few days, I put the watermelon plant out of my 10 and continued with the other important 11 of being seven, 12 suddenly my mother called me from my bedroom. "Mary! Come outside!" I went out and 13 her calls to the side of the house. 14 there, stood a perfect green watermelon that had obviously grown directly from the ground. My dad stood next to her, pretending to be amazed at my 15 thumb. "It's unbelievable! We'll have a party!"
Later that evening, several of the neighbors came over to our "patio". We cut 16 the watermelon, and Dad made it 17 that I was a superstar for growing this 18 fruit. I was too 19 and too naïve (天真) to notice that the 20 tag was still on it.
