    A Kenyan teacher who gave away . most of his monthly salary (工资)to poor people has won a $1 -million Global Teacher Prize.

    In 2016, Peter Tabichi came to Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School, a public school, in a faraway Kenya s Rift Valley. The school had just a single computer and had problems connecting to the Internet. It had no library or laboratory, as well. To make matters worse, the students came from poor families where basics like food and clothing were hard to come by. While these difficulties would have caused most people to leave quickly, Tabichi stayed.

    Realizing that starving kids make for poor students, the teacher began using as much as 80 percent of his monthly salary to buy food and learning objects for them. He set up a science club to get kids interested in the topic. "Our laboratory does not have everything, but I encourage them to think wider and use what we can get locally. "

    Tabichi and other four teachers regularly visit low-achieving, at-risk, students at their homes to provide one- on-one help and to understand the difficulties these children face daily.  Tabichi also encourages parents to allow girls to continue their high-school education.

    Tabichi's efforts have made a difference. School registration (注册)has more than doubled to almost 400 now since he came . In 2017, 16 of the 59 graduating students went to college, while in 2018, the number rose to 26. In 2017 , five students qualified(有资格)for the Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair). This year, two other students will compete in the 2019 Intel ISEF to be held in Phoenix, Arizona.

    The teacher, however, owes his success to his students, saying,"I am only here because of what my students have achieved. This prize gives them a chance. It tells the world that they can do anything. " As would be expected, Tabichi plans to spend the prize money on his school community and to feed the poor.

    Black holes were first put forward by Albert Einstein in 1916. However, scientists had not proved their directly. That changed on April 10, 2019, with the release of the first photo of a black hole in the center of the galaxy (星系)M87, located 55 million light years from Earth.

    The photo does not show the black hole itself. That's because they are black and so they can't be seen in space.the scientists used radio signals to capture (拍摄)the black hole's "shadow" —the bright ring that forms around its edge, when light bends because of the extreme gravity around the hole.

    The M87 black hole, believed to have a mass 6.5 billion times that of our sun, was captured using the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT)—a network of eight powerful telescopes(望远镜.)The telescopes, located in Hawaii, Arizona , Chile, Mexico, Spain and Antarctica, separately captured the black holl's radio signals over four nights in April 2017, when the weather was fine in all six places. The data was transpcried to a centre where it was dealt with by a supercomputer to form the photo of the black hole's shadow. The researchers say while the photo is slightly blurry, future photos will be clearer as more telescopes are added to the EHT. Black ' holes are not easy to capture on camera because  they are surrounded by thick dusty and hot gases.

    Black holes are areas in space where the pulling strength of gravity is so powerful that even light is unable to escape. They can be different widely in size and mass. The smallest,  called "primordial" black holes are as small as a single atom but with a mass of a big mountain. " Stellar'' black holes, which are the most common, have a diameter (直径)of about 10 miles and a mass 20 times that of our sun. The largest or "supermassive'' black holes, similar to that of M87's, can have a mass . greater than millions, or even billions of suns combined.

Signs of a True Friendship

    True friends are rare. . How can you tell a true friend? Here are several obvious signs of a friendship.

    A true friend is a reliable person, and you can have confidence in him. You know that he will hot betray (背 叛)you or say something bad about you behind your back. You know that the information you share with one another will not be shared with others

    Keeping in touch with each other frequently

    . True friends often keep in touch with each other, whether by phone, social networking sites ,email or in-person meetings.

    Giving without paying back

    True friends give with no expectations of receiving anything in return. Real friends give their time, love and care without expecting to receive anything back.

    Supporting each other

    True friendships involve (涉及)two people who support each other no matter what happens. It can be difficult to know how to help a friend who's facing a difficult situation, though. Call him, even if you don't think he will answer the phone, and leave an encouraging message he can listen to later.  Or send him an email letting him know that you' re there for him if he needs anything.

    Accepting each other

    Real friends accept each other. A real friend accepts you for who you are, whether you are tall or short, gentle or rude. A real friend may inspire you to be a better person.

    On March 10, 2019, eight-year-old Tanitoluwa "Tani" Adewumi beat 73 young competitors to win the New York State Chess Championship in his age category—kindergarten to third grade. While the 1 is great, what is even more amazing is that the boy 2 learning the game less than a year ago.

    Tani and his family 3 in New York City from Nigeria in 2017. Soon after, Tani started to study at the 4 elementary school, P. S. 116, which is near his home. It was here that the young boy was first  5 to the chess. 6 by the game, the boy begged his mother, Oluwatoyin, to allow him to 7 the school's chess club. Considering that the family would be unable to afford the 8, Oluwatoyin emailed chess  9Russel Makofsky, who ran the club. To her surprise and 10, Makofsky agreed to charge young Tani nothing.The young boy made up his mind to practice harder in return for his 11 He has won seven important prizes in less than a year, and 12 #27 in America in his age category.

    Every year in the month of March, one of  world's greatest wildlife migrations (迁徙)stops in central Nebraska. For a short time, sandhill cranes(沙丘鹤)fi1l the state's wide, flat fields. The land provides the birds   the perfect place to rest and eat.

    Since several years ago, more and more people  ( discover) the migration. Visitors crowd into river blinds—special buildings that help keep the bird watchers ( hide) themselves. They look through their cameras or telescopes in wonder.

    The sandhill cranes are worth the trip. They are (general) a little over a meter tall. They have long legs and necks. Their wings stretch over two meters. Sandhill cranes have soft, grey feathers. They  (know ) for having a bright red area on the top of their heads.

    The birds stop in Nebraska as they make their way from their winter homes in Mexico and some (south ) parts of the United States. The birds usually spend two to three   ( week ) at this place  they leave. They arrive in waves at times as many as 400,000 in one day. They eat in the nearby fields and grass lands. Leftover grain, insects and small creatures give (they) the energy they need as they continue their trip north, toward Canada and Siberia.
