How to Train Your Dragon 2 is probably one of my favorite films of this year because it was like medicine. It didn't taste great at first but in the end it made me feel better.
–Mark
Excellent movie!I brought my three kids, 8, 5, and 4 last weekend. They all liked it although the 4-year-old boy was a little scared of the Dragon and the fighting in the movie, not scared enough to want to leave, though.
–Brad
I was pleasantly surprised that the story was better than I expected. This is a great movie for the whole family and there is plenty of action in the movie. It shows us the great power of love and friendship.

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. It had not rained in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. If it did not rain soon, we would lose everything. On this day, I witnessed(目睹) a wonder.
I was making lunch when I saw my 6-year-old son, Billy, walking very slowly toward the woods. Minutes later he came running out again, toward the house. Soon after, I saw him walking toward the woods again. This went on for an hour. Finally I walked out of the house quietly and followed him.
Billy cupped both hands in front of him as he walked, careful not to drop the water he carried. Leaves slapped his face but he kept walking into the woods. Then I saw an amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them. I saw a tiny baby deer lying on the ground. It was dying of thirst, and it lifted its head with great effort to drink the water in my boy's hands.
When the water was gone, Billy ran back to the house. I followed him to the tap. Billy opened it and a small trickle(细流) came out. He knelt down, letting the drops slowly fill up his "cup".
Now I understood what was going on. The week before, he tried giving water to our horses but I told him not to waste water. Now when he stood up and turned, I was there in front of him. His eyes filled with tears, "I'm not wasting," he said. I joined him with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him walk to the baby deer alone while I stood at the edge of the woods. As tears rolled down my face, they were suddenly joined by other drops... and more drops... as if the sky itself was crying.
I was 10 the year my cousin Marley's parents gave her a painful Christmas surprise: they were getting a divorce(离婚). My aunt went to California, but my uncle decided to get her back. There was one matter: where to put his young daughter. Luckily, my mother loved Marley, giving her more attention than her family ever did.
On that Christmas Eve, my cousin arrived on our doorstep carrying an old blue suitcase. Before she stepped inside, Marley said, “It doesn't matter. When my parents come back, we'll have a bigger Christmas than this.”
Late on the night Marley arrived, my mom came into my room, her arms filled with packages.I knew they were my Christmas presents. “I know how you love surprises but we have to decide which ones to give to Marley.”
My mother carefully opened the gifts. Wow! I saw ice skates, red leather gloves and a dollhouse. The last present was the music box we'd asked the lady at the local store to take down and play for us over and over again.
“Which ones?” my mother asked. “She can have the ice skates,” I said reluctantly(勉强地). “That's good,” my mother said. She began to tape the packages up again. Then she stopped and asked, “Are you sure about these?” At that moment, I realized she expected more from me than I had already given. So I gave her the music box, too, and ___________. The next morning, Marley's eyes were resolute(坚定的). She expected nothing and wanted us to know she didn't care. But when she saw her name on the biggest box, she couldn't hide her excitement. I thought my happiness would be cut in half. Instead it was doubled.
Over the last 40 years, Marley and I have grown apart(分离的). But the love we felt for each other that day still remains. Today Marley says, “They were the best presents I ever got.
One year, a college in the United States announced that it would offer a lot of money for the pure white marigold(金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in the nature, besides golden, the marigold is brown, and it is not easy to get the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.
One normal day after 20 years, the college received a letter and 100 seeds of pure white marigold. It was an old woman of over 70 years old. Some experts in the college doubted it, but in order not to let her down, those seeds finally took root (根)in the earth. The miracle appeared after one year; the field was covered by pure white marigold.
Therefore, the old woman who was always unknown to the public became a new focus.
The old woman was a flower-lover. When she read the announcement 20 years ago, she got very excited like others. But her eight children were totally against her decision. After all, a woman who never knew the seed genetics(遗传学) couldn't complete what the experts could never do, so her thought was only a day dream.
Still, the old woman didn't change her mind and went on working. She planted some of the most common seeds and took good care of them. A year later, when the marigold came out, she chose one faintest(最暗淡的) from those golden and brown flowers and got the best seed. The next year, she again grew them and chose...Day after day, year after year, through many seasons, the old woman's husband died, her children flew far, a lot of things happened in her life, but only the wish to grow the pure white marigold took root in her heart.
Finally, after 20 years on the day we all know, in the garden she saw a marigold, which was nearly white, but as white as silver or snow.
A problem even experts couldn't deal with was solved by an old woman who didn't understand genetics. Was it a miracle (奇迹)?
To take root in the heart, even the most common seed, can grow into a miracle!

Imagine a life without arms or legs! You can't hold anything in your arms. You can't walk anywhere with you feet. How would you last a day like that? Would you (微笑) at yourself in the mirror like Nick Vujicic, the 29-year-old Australian?

Most Chinese children seem to get they want. Is this a sort of spoiling(溺爱) or love? I wonder. To my surprise, it seems that the life of a Chinese child is (real) hard. Without doubt , the child is the very centre of a whole circle of adults, but the other hand, he or she is also (expect) to start studying according to adults' wishes. Many children of my son's (age) take painting classes, piano lessons, and even English lessons. It looks as if Chinese adults think just playing without learning anything is waste of time.
So from this point, Western children appear spoiled, just because they are allowed (play). But without this sort of play, can Western children develop such free and rich imaginations? In fact, the connection between this imagination and the creativity is so important in the (child) future life.

Dear Meghan:
I am really angry with my parents recently. Next Sunday is my birthday. My parents promised to buy a cell phone for me as my birthday present this year. But now when I ask about the birthday present they say they have changed their ideas, because they worry about my study if I get a new cell phone since the final exam is coming soon. They say a cell phone may take up too much of my time. But I think I can control myself, they just don't believe me. What's more, they broke their promise!
