One day an old woman was traveling alone in the mountains. Suddenly she saw something shining in the stream. When she came close, she found it was a precious （珍贵的） stone. She put the stone into her bag and went on with her trip.

    The next day the old woman met a young man, who was also a traveler in the mountains. The young man looked very hungry, so the old woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked carefully, “The stone is beautiful. Would you like to give it to me?”

    “Sure. Why not?” the woman said, and handed the stone to him.

    The young man left happily with the stone. He knew it was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the woman.

    “I've been thinking,” he said. “I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back and hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within your bag.”

    The woman opened her bag. It was almost empty. She looked at the young man and smiled, “I have nothing special in my bag, but I do have something precious — the joy of giving!”

    The young man felt ashamed and left silently.

    Here are five tips for being a good friend.

    Listen more than you speak. Next time you ask a question, wait for the answer. Let the person tell the full story, and explain his complete answer.      

    Keep your promises. There's nothing worse than the type of friend who leaves you hanging. Whether it's a friend get-together or meeting at the mall, they always manage to break their promises and leave you feeling upset and disappointed. This is the reason why an important part of strong friendships is the ability to trust each other.       Therefore, next time you make a promise, keep it.

    Give advice, but only when it is asked for. By offering advice when it's not asked for, you're ignoring the needs of your friend.      Otherwise, don't give it. Be with them, hug（拥抱）them and make them breakfast in bed, but keep your wisdom to yourself and save it for another time.

    Let your friend have other friends, too. If your best friend picks another friend over you, try to be friends with their friends too. Maybe you guys can be a group of friends!

    Everyone is always looking for new friends.       Your loyalty（忠诚）to friendship is what the other person expects and counts on every day.

            Everyone has their own faults, and they need to work through them. Don't be bad to your friend about his or her faults, but help him or her work through them while asking for help on your own as well.

    Dad was not only my best friend, but also my compass (指南针). While he was alive, he1me with his actions and advice. He taught me one important 2: “Believe in yourself.”

    If there was one phrase my dad 3 liked to hear, it was “I can't.” He never got to finish high school and 4 two jobs to support his large family, 5 he never complained. Through education and years of hard work, my dad became an excellent journalist（记者）.

    When I was in high school, I had a 6  time with math. My math teacher tried to help me, but I was 7 poor in math. So my math teacher suggested I meet with him at 7:00 each morning before school for 8 help.

    A Frenchman went to a small Italian town        stayed with his wife at the best hotel there. One night, he went out for      walk alone. It was late and the small street was dark and      (quietly). Suddenly he felt someone behind him. He turned his head and saw an Italian young man       walked past him quickly. The man was nearly out of sight when the Frenchman suddenly found that his watch was       (go). He thought that it must be the Italian who had taken his watch.     During the weekend I traveled by air for the first time at my life. I generally travel by bus or train, where is both cheaper but safer. This was a short journey. In beginning I did not feel very happily, but this feeling did not last long. The journey is very exciting. I was soon high up in the sky among the cloud. The views of mountains, fields and rivers were interesting. I enjoyed me in the short and comfortable journey very much. This experience has shown that traveling by the air is actually the safest way of make journeys.
