The day was Thankful Thursday. Thursday has become my day to go out and do charity(慈善) work with my two 1 . On this special Thursday, we had no idea exactly 2 we were going to do. At noon I 3to a McDonald's with my daughters because they kept telling me that they didn't have enough to eat at breakfast. There we saw some homeless(无家可归的) people in the street and we decided 4 lunch for them.

    Films bring us more than just fun．For many people，watching foreign（国外的）films is a way to learn the language. Of course, there must be some difficulties. Here is my advice (建议) for you to get the most enjoyment from watching films in English.

    If you like action films, watch an action film like Indiana Jones. If you like comedies better, watch a comedy. Anything with Hugh Grant in always makes people laugh! If you choose something you enjoy watching in your own language, you may enjoy it better in English.

Choose something that is simple for you

    It's best to start with something simple. Then you can understand the story of the film better. Disney films, such as The Lion King and Tangled, are great examples.

    Ask friends for advice

    Maybe your friends have English films. If so, they may be able to recommend good films to you.

    If necessary, use subtitles（字幕）

    For beginners, subtitles are very useful. Using subtitles in your own language is the easiest way to understand the film, but for many good learners, why not use English subtitles? In this way, you can learn more words and improve your English.

    Nowadays, phone calls and messages help us make regular contact（联系）with others. It means that we seldom(很少) write letters now. But a TV show, Letter Alive(《见字如面》), is bringing back this old habit.

    Letters Alive invites famous actors and actresses, but there are no funny jokes or different competitions. Instead, it's just one person walking up to a microphone（麦克风）and reading a letter.

    The letters were written by people from different times in history. For example, in one episode(集), they read a letter written by famous writer Xiao Hong to her younger brother in 1941. The letter shows that Xiao Hong missed her brother so much and had great hopes for his future.

     "Every letter opens another world for us," according to Guan Zhengwen, the director（导演）of the TV show. "It seems that we can experience（经历）the real lives and feelings of the writers." Since its first episode on Dec.5, Letter Alive has been widely praised（赞扬）. Many audiences(观众) said that they really loved this kind of TV show.

    Besides（除……之外）Letter Alive, some other cultural TV shows have also been well received（接受）by Chinese audiences. They include(包括) Chinese Poetry Conference, a traditional Chinese poetry competition and Readers, a program that invites people to read poems and articles they like or wrote. It suggests that cultural values and true feelings are becoming our interest.
